Neymar will have to wait for Lionel Messi, his Barcelona teammate, to
bow out before he is able to shine as the best footballer in the world,
says former ‘Azulgrana’ player Ronaldinho Gaúcho.
Neymar has all the qualities to be the best in the world, but
“getting there will depend on how long Messi stays at the level he is”,
Ronaldinho commented in an interview with Brazilian cable network,
SporTV.
Ronaldinho Gaúcho believes that Messi’s reign also overshadows Real
Madrid’s goal machine Cristiano Ronaldo. “That must be Ronaldo’s
greatest frustration: to have lived in the same era as Messi” he said.
In his opinion, in the absence of Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo would be
the best in the world. “They were born in the same era. It was a matter
of chance. Were it not for that, Ronaldo would have been the best in the
world in recent years”, he said.
According to Ronaldinho, who was also considered the best in the
world during his time with Barcelona, “talent and place” are important
factors in Neymar’s journey to take over from Messi at the top.
“The team is good, the place is good, the championship is good”, he said.
“We’ll have to wait and see how Messi treats Neymar”, said
Ronaldinho, for whom things could be made difficult if “there is some
vanity, with a player not wanting to make room for someone new coming
in”.
