Comparison By Okupe On Jonathan and Mandela Ignites Reactions

Nigerians have reacted to Dr. Doyin Okupe’s comparison of President Goodluck Jonathan to the late iconic South African president Nelson Mandela.
Okupe, senior special adviser, to the president said “Nelson Mandela was a great leader, he lived his life for the people of South Africa. I check through the history of Nigeria, among our past and present leaders, the only one we call our Mandela is President Jonathan. There is no president in Nigeria that has sacrificed 13 hours to discuss with ASUU.”
Many Nigerians immediately took to social network site, Twitter, to respond to Okupe.
Adebayo Adesola @Feyishayur tweeted: “One question for Doyin Okupe: In the event of GEJ’s demise, will the EPL mourn him, talk more the whole world?
#JustAsking “Are you sure Doyin Okupe does not need a psychiatric evaluation. #GEJ compared with #Madiba! We no go see fire inside well o!,” OJOAK @ojoak responded.
Here are other responses from Nigerians. Dec 15th @LionelNicklas “An insult to Mandela”.
Toyosi Odusanya @TOYOSI_NO1 “Looks like Doyin Okupe just loves insulting our ears sha….. I will just ignore and refuse to get angry.”
Demola @demo5000 “Doyin Okupe is delusional this corrupt system has taken his sense of reasoning and judgement that made him compare a weakling to Madiba”.
Tunji @heymode “President Jonathan should sack Doyin Okupe for making such a sick statement and send him to Yaba left too”.
Aruoture John @Aruoturejon “Doyin Okupe needs to earn his pay as a Presidential Squealer but he should stop being ridiculous with statements bordering on sycophancy!”
Olusegun Dada @DOlusegun “Doyin Okupe should be pitied at this point. No need being pissed at him.”
Mr Ben @yzma_360 “Mandela refused a 2nd term in office. That’s enough difference.”
Omobolanle @MobolaOjo “Is this an achievement? No other president has spent 13 hours in a meeting with ASUU.”

Nigeria: Farmers Prefer Cannabis To Food Crops, Says NDLEA

Most Nigerian farmers now abandon growing food and economic crops for cannabis in a bid to become instant millionaires , the country’s anti-narcotics agency said Saturday.
In a statement, Ahmadu Giade, the chairman of the Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), said: “It is sad and disturbing that most farmers are now abandoning food and economic crops for cannabis.”
Last year, the NDLEA arrested 8,052 suspected drug traffickers, including 542 women, it said.
The NDLEA boss said that more than 1,400 hectares of land was used last year for cannabis plantation.

“This 1,404.27 hectares of land could have changed the fortunes of our agricultural sector if properly utilised,” he stated.
The agency seized drugs worth 33 billion naira ($208 million/ 152 million euros) last year and prosecuted 1,720 suspects, it stated. It did not say how many suspects the agency convicted.
Among the drugs seized were cannabis, heroin, cocaine, ephedrine, methamphetamine and amphetamine, the NDLEA said.
“We shall continue to dislodge more drug trafficking syndicates because anytime we intercept drug from criminals, we are indirectly saving lives,” Giade said.
Some of the seized drugs — hidden in ear rings, buttons, necklaces, bangles and female belts — came into Lagos from Brazil and Pakistan, he alleged.

Brazil World Cup: Gyan Hopeful For Ghana

Ghana captain, Asamoah Gyan has admitted that the Black Stars have drawn the most difficult and competitive group in the 2014 World Cup finals.
He, however, added that they are prepared to face any of the teams in their group, which pundits say is the ‘group of death’.
Ghana have drawn Germany, Portugal and USA in Brazil 2014, opening with a match against the USA at the Arena das Dunas in Natal, in what could be termed a Group of Death.
“Ghana’s group is the toughest. It is the group of death,” Gyan said on Asempa FM Sports shortly after the draw on Friday.
“But we have a good team to compete with any team. There is no need to fear Germany or Portugal or even the USA. Ghanaians should relax, we’ll qualify from the group and make Ghana proud again.”
“There is teamwork and coordination amongst us [Black Stars] so we’ll work hard and do well at the World Cup.”
After playing against USA in the opening game on June 16, the Black Stars of Ghana will lock horns against Germany in the second group game at Estádio Castelão in Fortaleza on June 21, before wrapping up the group against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal on 26th June at Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha, Brasília.
In the 2010 World Cup, Ghana advanced from a group that comprised Germany, Australia and Serbia, and defeated USA at the knock out round of the competition.

Famous Quotes Of Nelson Mandela

First Court Statement, 1962
“I hate race discrimination most intensely and in all its manifestations. I have fought it all during my life; I fight it now, and will do so until the end of my days. Even although I now happen to be tried by one whose opinion I hold in high esteem, I detest most violently the set-up that surrounds me here. It makes me feel that I am a black man in a white man’s court. This should not be”
Apartheid
“We are not anti-white, we are against white supremacy … we have condemned racialism no matter by whom it is professed. – Nelson Mandela, defence statement during the Treason Trial, 1961.
Fight For Equality And Human Rights
“I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons will live together in harmony with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for, and to see realised. But my Lord, if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”- Defence statement during the Rivonia Trial, 1964
First Day Of His Release, Cape Town, 1990:
“I stand here before you not as a prophet but as a humble servant of you, the people. Your tireless and heroic sacrifices have made it possible for me to be here today. I therefore place the remaining years of my life in your hands.”
Rally Speech, Durban, 25 February 1990
“In Natal, apartheid is a deadly cancer in our midst, setting house against house, and eating away at the precious ties that bound us together. This strife among ourselves wastes our energy and destroys our unity. My message to those of you involved in this battle of brother against brother is this: take your guns, your knives, and your pangas, and throw them into the sea! Close down the death factories. End this war now! -
Inaugural Address, Pretoria 9 May 1994.
“Never, never and never again shall it be that this beautiful land will again experience the oppression of one by another and suffer the indignity of being the skunk of the world”
Victory Speech, 1994
“I watched, along with all of you, as the tens of thousands of our people stood patiently in long queues for many hours. Some sleeping on the open ground overnight waiting to cast this momentous vote. ”
“This is one of the most important moments in the life of our country. I stand here before you filled with deep pride and joy: — pride in the ordinary, humble people of this country. You have shown such a calm, patient determination to reclaim this country as your own, – and joy that we can loudly proclaim from the rooftops — free at last! ”
Freedom Fighter
“I was called a terrorist yesterday, but when I came out of jail, many people embraced me, including my enemies, and that is what I normally tell other people who say those who are struggling for liberation in their country are terrorists. I tell them that I was also a terrorist yesterday, but, today, I am admired by the very people who said I was one.” – Larry King Live, 16 May 2000
South Africa
“You may succeed in delaying, but never in preventing the transition of South Africa to a democracy. – Long Walk to Freedom”

“South Africans have no concept of time and this is also why we can’t solve poverty and social problems… It’s now 10 years since the fall of the Apartheid government and we cannot blame Apartheid for being tardy.”
Forgiveness
South Africans must recall the terrible past so that we can deal with it, forgiving where forgiveness is necessary but never forgetting. – Nelson Mandela, on leaving office as South African president, 15 June 1999
Stepping Down As South African First Black President
I must step down while there are one or two people who admire me. – Nelson Mandela, Daily Nation, Kenyan paper, 16 June 1999
Long Walk to Freedom
“I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can rest only for a moment, for with freedom comes responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not yet ended.”
 Freedom
“I always knew that someday I would once again feel the grass under my feet and walk in the sunshine as a free man. – Long Walk to Freedom”"When I walked out of prison, that was my mission, to liberate the oppressed and the oppressor both”
