Man Drowns In A Lagos River While Swimming To Win Bet
A 25-year-old man, Toheeb Jimoh, has drowned in a Lagos river while reportedly swimming to win a bet.
He had allegedly bragged that he could swim the Lagos Lagoon from a particular point to the shore on Saturday evening.
It was learnt that when some people challenged his claim, he had allegedly dared them to place a bet. After the bet was placed, he reportedly went on a boat to the point and jumped into the lagoon hoping to swim to the shore.
Friends of the deceased, who had accompanied him on a boat, were said to have fled the scene after he did not make it out of the water.
The incident, which occurred at Aiyedun Street, Bariga, was said to have caused commotion among residents who trooped to the site, hoping to save Jimoh.
The corpse of Jimoh was said to have been recovered around 7pm same day and buried beside the water around 12am in line with the traditions.
The deceased who hails Abeokuta, Ogun State indigene, had only recently gained admission into the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta before the tragedy struck.
A source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, “He and some of his friends were actually fond of betting and gambling. So that evening, they decided to take the betting to another level. Toheeb told them he could swim from the Third Mainland Bridge end of the river to the shore.
“When the boat they took got to that point, which was a little close to the shore, he gave his clothes to his brother and jumped into the water.
“His friends who were in the boat waited for him at the shore without success. After it dawned on them that something was amiss, his younger brother raised the alarm. By the time people got to the scene, he had died.”

Wenger Should Buy Us Dinner For Selling Them Ozil- Carlo Ancelotti
Carlo Ancelloti in a recent interview with times discussed
about Post-Mourinho Madrid , the sanction of sale of Mesut Özil and how
demanding really is the Real Madrid job.
The Italian stated frankly that the players don’t discuss about what happened with Mourinho and further highlighted La Decima is a motivation and shouldn’t be mistaken as Obsession.
The Italian said,”[The players] didn’t speak about what happened last year with Mourinho, and I didn’t ask. To reach the semi-finals of the Champions League is not bad. It’s not good enough for some clubs, but it’s not bad.
“La Decima is not an obsession, but it’s a motivation. For the club it’s very important. The last time Real Madrid played in the final was 2002. For a club like Real Madrid this is not good.”
When asked about the expectations of Fans and the Board , the Italian was quick to compare with his past clubs and said ,” The supporters here don’t just look to win, they look at how you play. At Real you have to win with style. It’s not enough to win here. For example, Fabio Capello was sacked after he won the league.Chelsea were a more physical team, but here the technical skills of the players are the best.”
Ancelloti then discussed the sale of Mesut Özil when he discussed premier league in brief and joked Arsene should buy them a diner for sale of Mesut and the great start to the season.
The Blancos manager said, “There’s a lot of balance in the Premier League now, but in my opinion Manchester City have the best squad. I saw them play against Manchester United, and in terms of a squad they are very skilled. Arsenal are doing well, but we helped them of course.
Arsène Wenger has to buy us dinner, as we gave them Özil! It was my decision. When we bought Gareth Bale it was difficult to find space for him, and he needs to play. Mourinho will always do well, but they’ve changed a lot of players so it’s not easy.”

Jose Mourinho Tells Funny Story About His Hair
Jose mourinho admitted he had cut his own hair at the training ground
last week while all but four of his players were absent on international
duty. The savagely cropped style is similar to that sported seven years
ago when he had embarked on his third and ultimately tempestuous
campaign at the club by declaring: “Look at my haircut – I am ready for
war.”
This time the crop may more have reflected the tedium of the international window, even if he had felt compelled to send a selfie to his wife before venturing back home. “I did it myself down at the training ground,” he said. “I asked Fernando to give me his machine [clippers], and I did it myself in front of the mirror. It’s nice and cheap. Some people can’t do what I did. In a couple of months, I’ll have hair again. Some other people wouldn’t . I did send a picture of it to my wife before I arrived home to see if I’d be allowed in, and yes, there was no problem.”

The SFU said the four officials of IMFB unauthorized credit facilities to the tune of N327,566,000 to themselves and other related companies without collateral and that the loans are still outstanding. In the forensic investigation conducted by FMIU of SFU, the Directors were found wanting in the discharge of their duties while on the Board of Integrated Microfinance Bank (IMFB).

PDP Says It Is Not Worried About Losing Key Members to Rising APC
“We wish to state categorically that the PDP remains unperturbed as we are now rid of detractors and distractions, it said in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh, in which it called on its members to remain focused.
It said that by their open declaration, the departing members have unveiled their true intent and “chosen to abandon a broad based national platform” in favour of “a narrow group of ethnic and religious bigots whose main intention is to unleash a state of anarchy” on the country.
“We wish to remind our members that from the rulings of the court there are no factions whatsoever in the PDP. In the eyes of the law, the PDP remains one and an indivisible entity under the leadership of Alh. Dr. Bamanga Tukur, CON. We wish to commend the wise decision of some of the aggrieved Governors to dissociate themselves from the action of some of their colleagues. We assure all Nigerians that the PDP will continue to grow from strength to strength and will definitely emerge stronger from this event.”
Insisting that there are no factions whatsoever in the PDP, despite the fact there have been open and growing divisions for months, Mr. Metuh stated that the peace process initiated by President Goodluck Jonathan is still on course, and thanked him for “his patience, humility and spirit of accommodation.”
The meeting between the President and aggrieved members shall hold on next Sunday, he said. A similar meeting scheduled for last weekend was cancelled by Mr. Jonathan after he returned from London.
In a somewhat conciliatory tone, the party noted that its doors remained open to address all grievances, but warned it will not condone acts of internal subversion.
“The beauty of democracy is that in a political party system, some members are bound to leave while others come in,” the statement said.
Asari-Dokubo Arrested In Benin Republic
The leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, Alhaji
Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, was today arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
A statement by his lawyer, Festus Keyamo, said Dokubo was picked up by the police between 1:00pm and 2:00pm around the Lubeleyi roundabout, and taken to an unknown destination.
The wealthy former militant reportedly opened a private university in the Benin Republic, the King Amachree African University that is preparing to start degree-awarding programmes in 2014.
“We want to emphasise that Alhaji Dokubo-Asari carries on legitimate business and has been living partly in Benin Republic for many years now,” Keyamo said in his statement. “In fact, he owns houses, schools and an academy in that country. All these places have been searched as at this evening and nothing incriminating was found.”
He suggested that Dokubo’s arrest and detention may be a ploy by “certain forces in Nigeria in unholy alliance with the Beninoise government” to keep his client away as 2015 approaches.
“We call on the Nigerian government to immediately intervene and ensure that no harm befalls Alhaji Dokubo-Asari and to use all diplomatic means to secure his immediate release and safe return to Nigeria,” he said.
Dokubo has in recent times vowed that unless Mr. President Jonathan retains the presidency in 2015, Nigeria would break up.
